Nibs

Mutschler Fountain Front Sections

These parts will allow one to build a new pen design. I imported these directly from the this famous manufacturer. The set includes one front section, the seal, a threaded bushing, and a black or gold plated ferrule. I'll enclose some drawings and other parts I used to make pens with these, which you may need or not. The quality is excellent. The nib is steel, with gold plating. The nib size is fine and it has inscribed "Reform, Germany". A pump converter is included (not shown). Click on the thumbnail for a (slow loading) large image. This nib works with regular cartridges (Mont Blanc style).

$15

Sorry, 18k gold version is sold out.

Schmidt Front Sections

Making your own pen design? This front section is made by Schmidt of Germany, a company that supplies parts world-wide to pen making companies. They are renown for their quality and precision. I believe these are vastly superior to the Asian knockoffs you see in pen kits. The writing quality is excellent. This allows you to make a more slender pen than the Mutshler parts above, for less cost.

$10 each, or 10 for $50, including inner cap, front section, ferrule, brass bushing (not shown), converter (ink pump) and screws. This seal can be screw mounted, for click-on caps. Broad, medium and fine, available, while they last.

Also available: rolling writer front section that converts the pen seamlessly. 10 for $30, gold or chrome.

Converters: The above converter (ink pump) works on most pens using Mont Blanc style cartridges ( I don't think it works with Parker). $20 for 10, including shipping. Return for refund (un-inked) if it doesn't work for you.

Bushings:

I have bushings available like in the sets above. The female threads in the bushing receive the (8mm x .75 mm I think) male threads of various front sections, and for kits, it fits the Junior Gentleman, the Junior Retro, the Panache, the Jr. statesman, the Jr. Emperor, and the Junior Majestic. The outer surface has grooves to improve glue adhesion .The size is .919" x .352". Drawing below.

The price $1 each or $40 for 100. Satisfaction guaranteed.

Also available: Parker vector front sections. $1 each.

Parts and Mechanisms

Also available: Schmidt nib parts that allow you to make your own fountain front section, for example, if you want to make your own wood finger-piece. This includes the nib and the feed, but not the male threads for screwing into the barrel. $5 each or $30 for 100.  Contact Elliot for more information.

Schmidt .5mm pencil mechanisms. This is part of the German manufacturer's system that allows you to make a Parker format pen that can also be converted to a mechanical pencil. These .5 mm mechanisms are high quality -- they work great, no jamming. The actuation is by pushing the pin on top. You'll have to do a little engineering, but this is an excellent component. You can see this system used in high quality art pens, some by "Lexon."   There are 2 leads each. Erasers in plastic cups are included (not shown).   Other parts included to make the pencil convertible to a pen.

$3 each or $150 for batch of 85.

Threaded Inserts, brass, by Yardley Products.

These accept a 4-40 size screw. $12 for 100 pieces including shipping. They push nicely into wood or other soft-ish materials. They have a flange for a clean result. Also available in  the #2 screw size -- good for pen cap internals.

Twist mechanisms  (sometimes called transmissions)-- this is the mechanism that operates a twist action pen. I think these do not work with pen kits. It is about .25" diameter by 1.4" long, steel and brass, and the action is 1/2 turn with a slight locking at the end. These are for use with Cross type refills, but you can use your imagination for other applications.

$1 each or $35 for 100.

Also for Cross-type pens:

Gold plated point cone: $1 each or $35 for 100.
